Last night was movie night at our house. I made a big ol' batch of caramel popcorn thanks to a friend's secret recipe. But poor AJ can't eat a lot of it because he's an obedient child who has braces and always tries to stick to the rules. Even when mommy says "a little bit won't hurt"!
I sure love that child!
Today, it's 39* outside my house AND it is 39* inside my house.
Wanna know why? Because last night mommy gave AJ permission to put the tub of regular popcorn in the microwave, set it for 4 minutes like the directions say (knowing it wouldn't take that long) and she also said she would watch it and listen for the fainting pops to know when to take it out. While said child returns happily to his movie.
Guess who forgot to listen for the fainting pops?
Febreeze, candles, fans and now open windows/doors again today
because it still smells like smoke!
Any other ideas?
Besides watching my popcorn better!

Ughhhh! I hate the smell of burned popcorn. I don't have any ideas for you either. Sorry! Hope things improve quickly!
oh.my.word. that is too funny! I know it is not funny to you...but it will be in a few days! :) did you fry the microwave?
my daughter once followed the directions for bagel bites. only she followed the directions for a WHOLE BOX of them when only cooking THREE. it said 5 min. so she left to play basketball outside....she came back in to FLAMES coming out of the microwave!!! That was when we realized we needed a fire extinguisher in the kitchen and teach everyone how to use it!
...it's a funny memory now!
Would it make you feel any better to know that it is freezing inside our house too, but it is because our heater is on the fritz again (for the third time this winter) AND we have no hot water because our wonderful tankless water heater keeps freezing up on us despite the fact that the manufacturer swears it can't happen because of the internal heater!
So, on the bright side, you do have hot water...right?
however burnt popcorn...that is a BAD smell! You are welcome to come hang at our freezing house! :)
Trusty vinegar -- remove kitchen odors from burnt pot etc. by bringing to boil a small amount of water with 1/4 cup of vinegar so that the steam circulates the room.
( you may want to do a large amount of water/vinegar to make this work in your care. Hope it works - let us know!
I can totally smell it too...all the way in IL! No really, burnt popcorn is the worst! Sorry to hear about that! :(
we had a couple of corndogs that went in the microwave once for 20 minutes instead of 2 minutes and the sticks caught on fire...along with the microwave and the smoke was so bad that we couldnt see in front of us. we had to stay in a hotel for a couple days while they 'fixed' my smoke damaged house! i'm so sorry about that happening!
No ideas from me. My kids did that once, but it was at the church. It took forever for the smell to go away.
I hope the smell has gotten better. I don't know why, but burnt popcorn is the worst smell ever to have in your house:(
Your caramel corn sure looked good, I make my own too and that's the best way to eat it. Have you ever tried melting chocolate and drizzling it over your caramel corn...it is so good that way:)
Hope you have a Happy Monday!
i'm sorry, i am trying so hard not to laugh, but i'm having an awful hard time. lol
i don't have any ideas! sorry..hope the smell goes away soon.
It's no surprise there's no Febreze or Yankee Candle called "Burnt Popcorn". I feel for ya!
But, the part that shocked me was seeing that it's 39 degrees in Texas, really?!?
Don't you mean One-hundred-thirty-nine?
Funny, while visiting your blog I got a faint wiff of "popcorn gone bad!"
I'm laughing with you friend because I've been there/done that at least once in my life :-) Hope the smell gets better soon.
That stinks.
