Dear Walmart Customer,

You sir, the one who stood behind me in line tonight.

What you saw was;
  • a woman (slightly overweight by only 5 lbs. or so...okay maybe 10.)

  • 2 grocery carts full of bagged groceries

  • the total as $289.10

  • the kind cashier who tried to run my check thru 2 times

  • the humiliation on my face

  • my son's anguish at just wanting to take a sip of his Sprite we were also trying to purchase

  • me waiting for the supervisor to come and read me my rights

  • my hunched, defeated shoulders as I walked towards Customer Service with my stuff.

What you may have concluded was;

  • all those groceries were going to be inhaled by me.

  • I was white trash who was trying to write a hot check before payday.

  • I actually didn't have a dime to my name to pay for all those groceries the poor cashier had just bagged.

  • that I drug my son along to come grocery shopping to torture him.

What you don't know is;

  • I'm honestly trying to lose the last 10 lbs., so....

  • the pop tarts, cupcakes, brownie mix and Pringles were not necessarily for me.

  • that my son asked to come grocery shopping with his mom.

  • that I buy 2 weeks worth of groceries at a time and plan my menu accordingly.

  • that I am much more sympathetic and understanding to people who suffer this humiliation and I try to ease their discomfort by at least smiling once in awhile.

  • that I DO INDEED have $289.10 in my bank.

  • that we just opened a new checking account and something is obviously up.

  • that I never use checks anymore, but I've already lost my new debit card.

  • that my husband returned in my defense with his own debit card in hand to pay for the boatload of food and was successful!

  • and finally, that I will try to remember this moment when I have that temptation ever again to shop at Walmart.

Oh goodness girlfriend have I been in this situation! But think of all the poop bags ya got, isn't that what the walmart bags are for?
Putting a bunch of sh*t in?
Sorry couldn't help myself...got those menus handy I kinda need some ideas, um and leave the kraut recipe out, I don't think I'm up for THAT. Guess who I saw today? Check out the blog...Oh and we talked about you! How we both love you and want to meet you, and that's when I asked "Am I shorter in person then I sound on my blog? Because if I ever MEET Linda, I'm gonna need a stool for the picture!"

Ugh...not fun.

Sorry, lady!

I love your perspective on this. You could just be angry, but it got you thinking about how you look at other people, and that rocks.

i hate when that happens! on the bright side, you do have 2 weeks worth of food now, and you can plan your next trip somewhere else.

Maybe he was in a hurry cuz he left his two year old locked in the car. Or he had to use the bathroom. Or maybe he really wanted to eat the bag of dorritos that he was buying and couldn't wait. Or maybe, like me, he always chooses the slowest line, then moves to another cashier thinking it is faster, only for it to become the slowest. Next time you should turn to him and tell him how sorry you are to slow the line down, but sometimes it gives you a chance to read the magazines.

Ditto What Emily said.

I often buy 2 carts of groceries, too. A lot of our food is frozen, canned or bottled. I have picky hubby and kids...

The MANAGER once mentioned to me, "Wow - I can shop for all my kids for $100. I buy those pot pies and frozen burritos."

Sigh.
don't homeschool, either do You?
Don't have picky kids either, do you?
Don't have a son with a hollow leg, or a 5 year old carnivore, either do you????

Yeah -- I hate walmart.
but mostly because, of all places, I get judged there.
Ick.
