What.a.week!
Am I the only mama of back-2-school-already kiddos who is thankful to see Mr. Friday arrive?
We made it, the last day of the first week. It has been a week of many emotions, tired little boys and now plans to party-it-up with friends tonight to celebrate. I can't believe how many times one boy would leave in the morning dragging his sad little feet and coming off the bus skipping. Or vice versa for the other boy!
I may be 38, but I can easily remember the firsts in a new place. Especially 3rd Grade, Mrs. Deedon's class at Melrose Elementary School. Julie Stratton & Stacy Rammage, 2 red head little girls, embraced me the 1st day and became my sweetest friends. Hmm, I have a struggle remembering where I left my debit card but I can remember that? All said to remind myself of the impact this change is having on my own boys!
A few nights before school started D-Man & AJ had a sleepover in a closet where they had built a fort. About an hour after we tucked them in and they were suppose to be sleeping, they came out misty-eyed. They had made a list together of all the things they missed in Oregon.
A few tears were shed and we prayed together as a family. I really wanted to make their feelings valid, but also knew I had 2 scared, nervous and tired little boys in front of me! We decided to put the list in an envelope and plan to read it again in a few months (hoping things will have changed). I know my boys will always miss Oregon and their friends and family there. But I must say, what an awesome job they have done this week to embrace a new place and I'm so proud of them.
I am praying that when we open that letter back up, they will have new best buddies, smiles more than tears and happy feet in both directions to/from school. If not, we'll put it away for another few months!
Have a great weekend,

Oh, how I feel for those little boys! I HATE change and dread going/doing new things! I am proud of them for trying and for the smiles they have achieved! Live it up this weekend!
Your boys are SO brave & I too am proud of them for making it through the first week!
CHANGE is hard no matter what your age and I will pray that God might place "a little red headed girl" (okay - maybe to specific ;-) heehee) a friendly face in your boys path next week to embrace them!!
((Hugs)) & Happy parting this weekend :-)
I remember those first days of a new school that happened almost 30 years ago. Worse for me was going to a new Sunday School. Kids just sit there and look at you. I wondered if they thought I was cute. :) Glad you made it through this week. I knew you would. Next week will hopefully be easier.
that is a great idea, Linda! God is so good! I so feel for you right now, having moved my kids across country several times. My kids still miss their last home (they were there for 8 yrs), but now each one of them will say that this move was good for them and are glad they are here!
Awww- poor little guys. BTW- love your new blog look. Very nice
I went through this too. Switching schools. Course I was still in the same state. I think it's great that you kept the list and VALIDATED their feelings! Can't wait to see how things turn out...
:)
oh, my heart goes out to your little fellows! and i think that's a great idea about putting the things they miss away and bringing it back out in a couple months.
can you say things are sweet when referring to boys? not sure how that works....lol ....but i think it is the sweetest thing they camped out together and had one another to talk to
lovin' your new look too!
Beautiful new look. Good for you to make it through the first week. We still have another week and a half before we make the dive (perhaps that was one of the things the kids missed about Oregon).
What a great idea to put that list in an envelope. Those boys have such awesome parents!
If I did not homeschool my little one, I would be sooo happy to see Mr. Friday come too! Weekends are great!!
Loved what you did with your boys' list and praying with them. I think your boys will look back and be so grateful that God blessed them with parents like you and your husband!
Hope your weekend ROCKS!!
i just LOVE your new layout, Linda!!! super cute!
your boys are so sweet and what a wonderful mommy you are. embracing the opportunity to teach and learn from one another. praying together as a family, i think, is the best way to handle such changes going on. chnage is sooooo hard, but it is the only constant in life, next to God. it's hard to embrace at times like this!
i pray you have a sweet weekend and enjoy those boys of yours!
Linda,
I love the look of your blog. :)
That is a great idea about the envelope and it was wonderful the way your boys have dealt with their feelings about Oregon.

i know moving is hard. we moved to a new house four years ago, and left a house that we had all loved. i found my son one night in his room sobbing on his pillow thinking of our old house and how much better times were there. it happened again after we moved to this house(same town) and he had a melt down about that same house! it was a hard transition to make even just moving in the same town, i can only imagine moving so far. i even considered trying to buy it back out of desperation and guilt! all that to say, i can only imagine how hard the changes have been. i will be praying for you guys. hang in there. it's one of the hardest things to watch your kids feel sorrow. makes a mom want to just make it all better for them. GREAT idea about the list, you are a GREAT mommy!
Oh, what a rollercoaster!
You're such a good mom. This transition must be so hard, but you GET that and your boys will know you care. That's what's most important.
You rock.
My heart goes out to your little guys...change can be tough. And, when things are tough, that can be really hard for a mom! You are doing a great job...keep us posted on how the transition progresses.
Can I just say you have 2 amazing little boys!!!!
How mature is that....to make a list about what they miss...no therapist could give them better advice!!! You guys too, are so wise in keeping that for them to observe on hopefully a brighter day!
