Warning: Angry parent post!

Dear Little League coach,

My D-Man is on your team. But I'm not sure if you notice him. It is his first year playing and although he might not be a supa-star to you...he is in my book.

So how's about letting him play another position besides right field every game (which is better than the 2 innings he has to sit on the bench).

And even though you think his attention span isn't good enough...did you ever consider it's because he's bored out of his mind in right field. I know he is good enough and if taught and given the chance, he might surprise you.

I know my D-Man likes baseball. And we hoped that he would love it. But I'm not sure I would love a sport where I don't get the chance to try.

We have been impressed with Little League and all it stands for. You seem like a "nice" coach. I just wish my son could be given the chance to play. So what if he doesn't catch the ball perfectly. We believe in him and we wish you would too. We are moving in a few weeks and his chances are running out. I just hope he will want to play again next year.

One last thing....

These boys are 10 years old remember and winning is not everything.

Signed,
a frustrated parent

OKAY...I feel better. It's not really that horrible, but it is getting awfully discouraging. We do have an good coach and we tried talking to him today about this. He has just really bummed this mama out today because he doesn't seem to believe in my son. Now tell me what mama bear wouldn't get her claws out at that?

I've been there. I know it's nice to win, but these coaches need to get that winning is not everything!

So sorry to hear that. Glad you said something to him. I hope next week is better.

I'm sure that is so frustrating...for both you and your son.

I know how frustrating that can be. We went to "away" games to watch when our daughter played on the hs soccer team. Many times "home" and "away" she barely got to play if at all! She stuck it out to the end of the season but lost all interest in soccer after that. But she had much more success on the tennis team and was captain of the swim team! Things can change.

Girl, I understand!!! Around here, Little League is serious business. When my oldest was in the 7-8 league, his coach used to read them their batting stats before EVERY game! I hope things get better for him!

I hope he gets a chance to play soon! He is so lucky to have parents who believe in him!

Where are you guys moving to?

Was the coach receptive when you talked to him?
That is so frustrating. It is my pet peeve when coaches and parents alike take winning so seriously!!!
Hope he gives your son a chance!

welcome to the competitiveness of recreational sports these days....one of the reasons my husband became a coach....to give all the players a shot!

I was D-Man as a kid. I was a halfway decent ball player, and when I shot the ball -- and made it, mind you -- the coach pulled me aside angrily and ordered me to give the ball to her daughter next time I had it in my hands. My mom had another parent tell her she was crazy if she let me stay on that team any more. So the next morning I turned in my shoes. =) (I switched to tennis in high school, lol! I'm not a group sport person!)

Good luck with that Little League problem. The best advice I can give you is to just take D-Man out and you or your hubby toss the ball around with him, telling him how great of a player he is. That's what my parents did with me, and after that, I really didn't care what my coaches said (which is probably why I aimed my tennis ball at one of their heads...Yeah, I had some anger issues in high school, lol!!!)

Poor thing...he looks so sad in that picture...maybe he'll get a better coach in TX!

I'd like to cut and paste that to send it to last year's football coach for Brayden!!!!

Hope things improve and he doesn't scar your boy from wanting to try it out in Texas -

And, loved your previous post - relate to so much of it!

He really does look a bit bored out there. Proud of you for sticking up for him. I say give him a chance, he looks so cute in that uniform, he's just waiting to get it dirty!

It's tough to watch your kiddos sitting the bench. For the past 5 games Tyler has sat the bench too and I so feel your growl!!! Just how are the kids supposed to show that they can do it when they don't get that chance? Sitting on the bench certainly isn’t a chance! It only allows for splinters on the "bum" and man I'd be bummed if all I got out of a game was a bench splinter! :-( I'll be praying for the coach and that D-man doesn't loose interest.

Keep faith mama bear!!! And just for the record – I have showed my claws recently. Maybe that's way Tyler is still benched? Opps.

that uniform is way to clean! he needs some dirt on those knees! way to go at sticking up for your little guy and advocating for him! only 3 more weeks til you move...that seems too soon! i sure hope he gets a chance before then!

awww, that's tough...and boring... It gets better. Our oldest son spent his first year in hardball playing outfield too, and striking out EVERYTIME...and being the last up to bat with 2 outs in the last inning in the year end tournament where they were playing for first. He was so nervous and struck out and this mama shed some quick, hot tears while they did the team cheer. It gets better and more fun. We were told that that K didn't have the attention span to be in field as well as they didn't want him to get beaned. I have to say that K didn't pay attention most of the time, so I guess it was a legitimate excuse...

and HELLO, you're moving. I do away for a long weekend, and what did I miss?????

same thing happend to my Devyn when she was little. broke my heart, so i feel your pain. well, i believe in D man just as much as you because i know that a child's game of baseball is for fun and learning and in the grand scheme of things it won't matter how many games they win.

My son is in his first season too. The coach seems all right, but his son definitely plays more than the other kids. Our kids need all the encouragement they can get. My claws would be out too!

I bet he's gonna want to play next year, just keep reminding him that it's not the same every year and that things will always be different and his chance to shine is coming soon!
