*Dog day* of summer

Today was Dale's Birthday.

Now don't go thinkin' I'm one of those who dress their dog or pampers him or treats him like a human. Okay, other than giving him a man's name! But this sweet pooch has brought our family a lot of joy and laughter. We decided to "celebrate his birfday" today. We've never done it before, but it's summer and we're just looking for more ways to party. It wasn't any big hoopla, but an event that he will dream about forever.

We do not feed our dogs people food. They get dog treats, Pedigree and every once in awhile a pig's ear ends up in the grocery sack. We also do not let them hang around the table while we eat our meal. So today's "gift" was one that Dale seemed unsure of but went ballistic.

A ham bone!

He's a beagle and he often reminds me of sweet ol' Snoopy. He can even do that creepy stare like Snoopy does when he's trying to steal Linus' blanket. I'll be going about my business and there he is staring me down. Strange, but if you really knew this dog....you'd know he's really a big, huge softie. He cowers and hides if voices are raised. He isn't a lap dog by any means, but he loves a good stroke every now and then. He's the alpha dog in the house, but you wouldn't know it by how much he lets Henry lay on top of him and chew on him.


So, all that said...I'm tempted not to put this video up on my blog because he really is NOT a mean dog. But it is a hoot. Dale has a history with bones. In fact when we bought him his name was Bones at the time. He very rarely gets one and when he does the little fella completely turns into a rottweiler. So in this video he looks like a freak who'd completely bite your arm off, but he's not. He just gets all upset because I think he's confused when he gets a treat like this and is afraid we will take it away. The bottom line is...when Dale gets a bone, you DON'T MESS WITH HIM!

So, as mean as we are to tease the poor dog...he will always be a gentle, sweet soul that we delight to have as a part of our family!
