Tales of a lazy painter

My inlaws picked up more than their puppy when they came through town on Saturday! I've been missing 2 particular little boys a lot today. They of course are having the time of their life riding atvs, feeding cattle with grandpa and finding every sort of treasure you can think of around a livestock barn. I, on the other hand have done it again.

I get these wild whims where all of a sudden I decide to do a huge project and hardly ever consider the time, cost or lack of sleep it will entail. My brother and his girlfriend stayed with us Saturday night, so I did take a little bit of time to enjoy dinner out and a late movie. I felt so "young" staying out til midnight and seeing a movie that wasn't rated G!

Anyways, back to the wild whim. When you are home too much, things like this happen....dissatisfaction. I've been staring at my kitchen cabinets way too long lately and something needed to be done about it. Whamo...a painting project evolves. I♥ to paint! The problem is how lazy I am when it comes to this sort of project. I am way more intent on the final outcome than the whole process.

So do I tape? NOPE. Do I put a cover down? NOT UNLESS I HAVE TO! Do I decide on the right color right away? NEVER.

After 3 trips to the store for supplies I forgot and a quick painting conversation w/ the check out clerk who obviously noticed, here I sit. I desperately need a shower, a hot meal and a nap! I'm running on sugar from all the cookies I've been shoving into my mouth as I paint!

It's hard enough to resist treats when the cabinet doors are closed let alone completely off the hinges!!

My boys will be walking through the front door smelling like cows in a little while and things are in shambles. Gone are the days that I have to worry about tiny fingers touching wet walls but it is Spring Break and I am determined to get this done so I can soak up my boys for the next week.

In the end, maybe it is a good thing I'm a lazy painter! I might be lazy, but I'm fast!

Hmm, now about those cabinet knobs...it never ends, does it?!

I'm the same way. I get all excited about a project but neglect to plan ahead AT ALL. Eventually it gets done, with probably far more hassle than necessary. I'm sure you're not like that at all:) Don't forget to show us the final outcome!

just do what i did...talk your husband into redoing your whole kitchen, cabinets and all! we did that last fall and now i've fallen back in love with my kitchen!

i am so impatient when it comes to painting! i hate the taping and planning, but want it done...NOW! i'm getting bored with my bedroom right now and have mentioned a couple of times to hubby i would like to repaint it...he's not going for it. i'm gonna keep tryin' though! i don't give up so easily!

i am just like you when it comes to painting however, my hubby is such a perfectionist that he doesnt allow me to paint anymore due to my lack of preparing! imagine that. hehe, it's a blessing tho, i get out of alot of things that way.

I don't think I'd call you lazy, girl - it takes some gumption to jump into a project like that! If it were up to me, I'd wait for my hubby to do it...so good for you! :)

Spur of the moment projects? Been there! Done that! :-( It sounds like you kiddos will have a blast with your parents. I’d love to spend a day there too.

Happy painting ;-D

I'm just plain awful at painting. When Josh and I were first married, every room in our new house needed to be painted....after 1 room of bickering, I never painted again. It saved our marriage. ;-)

I so unbelievabley relate to this post. When I was a stay at home mom, I would get into paint, sponge, rag-roll whims.

Even when I started back to work I continued on with whims. Have the girls put a halt to it over the past 4 years- but I have noticed myself looking at walls to paint, quilts to make, and general redecorating ideas. Lol- look out!

I'm the worst painter...in fact, I'm pretty much banned from painting all together. I love having it done (making something new out of something old)...but I get very impatient...imagine that. I end up just slappin it on...and it looks terrible.
Girl..if I was closer, I would totally come and help you...although, you would have to share those cookies! It may not look nice when we were done, but I'm sure we would have fun doing it.

I'm just like that when I paint. :)

And I always miss my boys when they're gone even for a few hours. Even though I don't get many breaks and always want one, I feel like my limbs are missing or something...(sigh)

Painting is waaay cheaper than a kitchen remodel, so way to go you on painting!

I agree, staying home can definitely cause dissatisfaction at times. You see the same walls and the same colors all the danged time that sometimes you.just.need.change!

I painted my bathroom last week. The fourth time in 5 years. I did tape off the corners and such but uh, didn't cover the floor. So, while on the phone and rolling the paint, I hit my bottle of conditioner. Somehow it flew across the bathroom, landed in the paint tray and splattered paint all over my floor, a bit on my new bath mats and a huge splatter on the wall that wasn't yet painted. Sigh...

Note to self, don't try to talk on the phone and paint at the same time.

OH can I relate to this! Have you seen that infomercial with the painting gadget that holds 8 times more paint and goes around the trim and stuf so you don't have to tape? I have and I WANT IT. But I was telling my stamping group about it and one ladies hubby is a "professional painter" and said "If you want it do right you have to do the work." I REALLY wanted to smack her! Then I started thinking...I just want it DONE...nothing else in the world is perfect. Not my hair, not my carpet, certainly not my "professionally" painted living room. It need to be redone and I haven't got 3 days and no kids to do it or the ladders. Phisha.
You better believe when I decide to finally paint my bathroom and bed room it will be with the painting gadget and I will LOVE the result regardless.
I SO wish I could go you the farm too!

Are we twins?
I often jump into a project backwards wanting to rush the process. That's why I don't do puzzles ~ no patience for all those pieces.
Post pics of cabinets!

A girl after my own heart! I LOVE to paint, but it sure is time consuming - even when you cut corners like taping and tarping! I refuse to spend more than one day on a room, so I end up hanging up pictures, and then changing my mind and moving them leaving holes in my freshly painted walls, usually before the walls are even completely dry! Ughhh.

I suspect we will need to paint the outside of our house in the next year or two. Can we count you in as a volunteer both for labor and color recommendations?

My BFF and I decided to paint my kitchen, living room and hallway in a matter of three days a couple of summers ago...it was INTENSE. Neither of us are expert painters by ANY means, and we're under 5'6" and my ceiling is 18 ft high. Definitely a memorable experience...lol.

ha, I approach painting the same way- and usually end up making some kind of error! Hubby is the opposite, so we roll our eyes at each other. where's the before and after?

When do we get to see the cabinets?
Same thing here, I never prepare for anything, because in my head I am Superwoman, and superwoman doesn't need to prepare for anything because she never messes up.... HA!

I'm with everyone who said "can't wait to see pics!". I remember some fun painting times with you! Wish I could hang out and paint with you...and eat cookies!
