There are 999 copies (x2) of these cards that need printed, cut, laminated, cut again. So that's 1,998, right? These are our new security cards for our Kids Ministry at church. To keep up my whining...there are the 999 (x2) copies of "key tag" sized security cards that need printed, cut, laminated, cut again. So, what's that...yep...3,396 cards fiddled with 4 times! Do you feel sorry for me yet? You shouldn't. I am TERRIBLE at delegating. The worst. It's pride, I'll admit it. I'd rather do it myself and make sure it's done right. And I hate imposing on people. Go ahead, say it...I'm robbing them of blessings. I've heard that one too. Especially from my hubster. Who btw is the KING of delegating and has really figured this ministry for the Lord thing out. He has been used by the Lord to bless his people in immeasurable ways. He has the gift to help people find their nitch and lead them, nurture them and set them free. Here I sit, hand cramps, grumpy and it's all my own fault!
Ministry at its beginning! I graduated from Bible College in '94 and really had no idea what I was going to do. I knew I felt called and in love with serving God in some capacity. And of course He perfectly fit me into taking on the secretarial position at my home church. I fell in love with clerical work and being involved in the church was an even bigger bonus! "I'm gonna be a teacher when I grow up"is what I used to say. I loved working with kids, but found out VERY QUICKLY that if I were to be given the responsibility to teach anyone's kids, they would never make it past the 1st grade. Recess, snacks and gym were too much fun and discipline...what in the world is that concept?
So, along with being the beautiful church secretary, I was given the opportunity to lead our Kids Ministry. How cool is God?! I get to hang out with kids...I loved that! The size of our group was probably no more than 40 kids, so I could leave that part out and wow you, but I'll be honest. I loved our church. It was the SWEETEST group of God-loving people that in a sense grew me up. I had hundreds of parents, grandparents and "kids". It was heaven. My sweet church helped me thru a lot of changes in my life. Moving back from college and taking care of my mother who was unfortunately losing her battle to cancer was a big part of that season I began in the ministry. For loved ones in that situation it is imperative to have support and to have that in abundance was amazing.
After my mother's passing it was incredible to be involved in a church where I could be myself and people supported me in the good times and "fallin' apart times". I was glad to have a job to give me purpose. And quite honestly, distraction. And to change the subject but stay on distractions,"HE" came along. My hubster.... And although the topic is about ministry, it can't be talked about without starting from the beginning with him!
Welp, enough for today! I'll finish tomorrow. I have security cards staring me down!

You know, Linda, I WAS a teacher, and consequently know how to cut a pretty straight line on nametags.... But, I'm a "Type A" personality as well and can't tell you how many times I've said, "No, that's okay, I got it" when it comes to things I want done "just so...."
It's fun learning about your history - keep it coming!
Hey! You already peaked my curiosity with your post yesterday, but now that I know you are answering my question about your ministry, I am doubly excited!!! I am looking forward to knowing you just a bit better by the end of this series.
So sorry to hear about your mom's passing. I can't imagine how difficult that would be to live through at such a young age.
Are you really gonna leave me hangin' with meeting that most wonderful distraction?!?! Guess I'll just have to tune in tomorrow. ;o)
Uummmm....cutting and ect by yourself or a group of gals to pass the day with...Hhmmmm...
You are too much of a hoot I'd have to come pass the day away cutting and laughing away.
I was a church secretary for 10 years and I robbed plenty of people of blessings! LOL! I'm a perfectionist (at my job - at home, not so much!) and wanted it done the right way - I mean, my way! Besides, you know, so often volunteers don't show up - and well, then I'd be even further behind because I waited .... so no thanks. I'll do it myself. (I hopped over from Angel's blog)
... Angel's blog - no it wasn't, it was Emily's :-) Just in case you're wondering "who is Angel??"
Drop the scissors, sistah. Unless you're spread out on the floor with a diet coke and a good movie playing - that might make the cutting a lil bit easier. (especially if the movie had my bf Matthew McConaughey in it. *wink*)
You crack me up and you're so right about Curtis delegating. He's like a snake charmer though and can get people to do all kinds of things they're convinced they can't!!! haha
