Ahh I am a product of the GREATEST decade in music EVAH. No matter how old you are, you have to admit that the 80's music compares to none before and in my opinion...none since.
I have fond memories of good ol' Casey Kasem's American Top 40 on the weekends. We'd sit around our boom box w/ the blank cassette tape in and 2 buttons down: The RECORD button and the pause button. When he announced our favorite song, we could hit that pause button and capture the song we were dying to hear. That song would be played over and over with thoughts of some boy or another.
The only bummer part of our boom box years ago was that it not only recorded what was coming thru the radio speakers, but any noises going on in the room. I remember my sister and I laying on the floor holding our breath during the song and inevitably our LITTLE brother thought it was hilarious to come in and start talking. The shrieks added to the destruction of a perfectly recorded love song and we'd slam the door. Why in the world didn't our parents instill locks on our bedroom doors back then? Those weren't the only time my little brother invaded our girlie space!
So, dear Casey Kasem...thank you for all those wonderful weekend afternoons with you. Your voice captured my attention and my heart. If it weren't for the great 1980's bands, I think I would have fallen in love with you sir.
I put a bunch of my favorite ballads on the player up above!
Take a stroll back with me.
Then head over to sara's to hear more!

Thanks for the great memories this morning, this sounds just like my friends and I every single weekend lol I still remember exactly what the cassette player looked like, going to try and find a picture...
aaaah...80's music, there really is nothing like it. It is one of the reasons we love satellite radio...all 80's all the time!
That really brought me back- I remember so clearly making tapes like that too!
Love 80's music!
GNR!!! AWESOME. Love the "boombox"
I'm gonna be here awhile listening...may have to come back, cause I need some breakfast.
Oh, goodness Paul young, I haven't heard that song in forever. hee hee hee Oh Sherry, I used to sing this at my sister (her name is Sherri) and she would kick my arse everytime...she hated it. LOL
MR. MR. classic.
Lost me at Eurythmics, she scared me. I heart HEART.
Whitesnake! LOL! YEEEEEH!
Ahhhhhh, Bon Jovi.
Sigh, Eternal Flame.
We belong, we belong toge-ther. Love IT.
Starship! From THAT movie...And we can build our dreams together....
Okay, if you can't tell I TOTALLY enjoyed your mix tape!
What a great list! I remember the horror of having one of my songs messed up by my brother, too. :(
I have to admit, I made a list, but it is not the ballads list Sara suggests. I just put on the ones that came to my mind. Oh, well, I don't always have a snow day to mess around with memories. The sad thing is I totally forgot to add Eternal Flame to my list, and I danced to it at my wedding...
Oops. :)
Bon Jovi- be still my heart! great songs here- now I have to go find one that isn't on your list! Eternal Flame- I swooned over that one!
I have some fond memories of Casey Kasem. I remember his voice perfectly, how could I ever forget?
I still have a few of my mix tapes, and they are awesome!! Too bad I don't have a tape player. Wait! I do in my car! The kids would love that.
i had a bright yellow record player that i listened to "oh, mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind..." on and then i had a purple boom box that of course played my new kids on the block! oh the memories...
I love 80's music! I am so with ya on being the best music!
And yeah boom boxes....excellent invention:)!
8675309. Why can I still remember that number when I can't remember my own social securty number?
Ahh the 80s...
Ha! We DO have similar memories of the old boom box! Only with me, it was my big brothers that would barge in, make fun of me, and ruin the tape by pushing stop and rewind when it was supposed to be recording. It drove me nuts!
Casey Kasem - what a guy!
I can't believe that we use to carry those boom boxes around! lol
Thanks for sharing the oldies with me.
Love, love, love your playlist! Especially Whitesnake! I haven't heard that song in soooooo long. Brought back lots of memories of driving in my car with it cranked! Thanks for the trip down memory lane:)
OHmygosh, I forgot how the recorder would pick up all the background noise. Can't tell you mad I was to wait all day for THE song to come on the radio, only to have the DJ talk like halfway into it, and then have the rest of it ruined by me talking about the DJ. TOO funny.
Blessings, Carolynn
no she didn't! girl, i'm sitting here listening to always and Emily just turned to me and said will you turn that down! I still love listening to bon jovi (the old songs, don't really know any of his new stuff, takes me back to my 15 year old self heehee)
Okay, I heart you even more!LOVE LOVE your playlist! Most of those were my favs growing up.
Totally agree with you about 80's music! my nephew (18) loves a lot of the bands that i listened to. He was playing a song one day and i started singing along and he wanted to know how i knew that song. I laughed and laughed! Told him i heard it the first time around like 15 years ago! lol
i graduated in 80. boom boxes were huge in the late 70's. you so brought back memories of waiting with fingers on the record button. im from the NYC area and boom boxes were part of the culture. wow, thanks for the memories. listening to boogies shoes right now. im smiling.. jeez that feels good.
