An Early Christmas Present...from the Government!

I stood in the shower on Election Day so proud of my freedoms in this country. Proud that I had voted and proud that I exercised my rights as an American citizen. And in that fleeting thought I also remembered the envelope my ballot arrived in. This led to another thought at how they had my information and we've lived here 2 years without a letter from the government telling me my number was up....

I kid you not that the day AFTER election day, this arrived in my mailbox:

The letter began with "Greetings"...might as well have said "Season Greetings"! My "term of service" begins on December 5th. So, hey at least I won't be standing in long holiday shopping lines. And jury duty...ahh now that should be some great material for blogging!

Bah Humbug,

*I decided to join the Giving Thanks Challenge today...so I'll have to admit after this grumpy post....that I'm thankful for my freedom.

Merry Christmas????

uggh. I had that last year, same time, and ended up spending 2 whole, long, amusing yet aggravating days in court - THE WEEK OF CHRISTMAS. Not to mention that our supervisor was on vacation so we were already one person short, then I got that privilege. Good luck! Maybe you'll not get called, or get something short & sweet.

Oh man, Linda that is stinky. It's been awhile for me so I'm sure it'll be coming soon. So what books are you going to read?

Oh bummer! My hubby has been summoned twice in the past two years! The first one he was THIS close to going into the jury room when they settled with the judge. The last time he didn't have to even show up but had to check online everyday. Maybe they'll leave him alone and not find me either!
~~hugs

Oh no! I was summoned two years ago, but THANKFULLY, they allow you to be off when you have small children here in Alabama.

I do think it would be kind of cool to do sometime after I didn't have to find a babysitter, though.

yikes. I was just listening to a radio program and they were talking about acceptable reasons for being excused from jury duty- small children being one of them. It would be an experience though...

Get yourself some good books and practice your most un-impartial look. That usually gets me out of there pretty quick.

I almost hate to say this, as if I am cursing myself, but I have never been called, wouldn't even know where to go! I know it is inconvenient, especially during the Christmas season, but I am terribly thankful for our freedom and for a reasonably good court system, so I am I hate it for you but I appreciate the service!

i'm so slow! good grief! I was wondering why you got something with Christmas graphics on it and though um, wonder if we'll get one. at first i thought it was another one of those checks (still why'd they put those graphics on there) then i finished reading the post and looked closer at the picture.

i have never been called to do jury duty and this is something that i WANT to do. i've thought about calling and seeing if they'd pick me but i'm not sure how all that works. And David tells me that I'd get sent home after they talked to me for a few minutes!

Hey, maybe you'll get a nice, festive case with holiday spirit! Like they show in Boston Legal or something like that during the holiday season...

I've never been summoned for jury duty but I have to say I wouldn't be too excited about it if I was. Especially so close to the holidays. Ah well...I like how you ended with a thankful statement anyway. :)

Oh, man. So sorry about that. I've never been called for jury duty. I'm hoping it doesn't happen while we live here, because it would probably be for some gruesome murder or something like that.
