I thought I was hip. Or at least "in the know" of this generation. (I sound so old already don't I?) But a few things lately have shown me what a goof I am when it comes to this texting thing.
For instance, my sister thinking I said belch instead of blech yesterday in a text.
Having absolutely no idea what my cool friend Beverly meant when she wrote IRL. And in an email back from her explaining to this uncool mama that IRL meant In Real Life she also uses another text term: KWIM. What? is the only thing I got from that one.
Then I heard TTYL and kept letting air out of my head enough to make myself understand that it did not mean :Ta Ta For Now, because that's all I know about TT.
Oh brother.
So I did a little searching. And came up with a few text codes I feel led to share with you. Just in case you are a little clueless like I am. And if you already know all this lingo. Don't tell me. I'm having enough trouble with my ego that my older sister knows more of this stuff than I do!
TIA: thanks in advance I can't quite hear a teenager using this one?
TBH: To be honest or I guess you can use TBL if you're not being honest?
TATT: Tired all the time. This one needs to be on a plaque above my stove!
AITR: Adult in the room Nice to know as a mom for when my son is 35 and I let him have a cell phone!
AWC: After while crocodile Thought this was cute.
BHOF: Bald headed old fart Just in case!!
CRAT: Can't remember a thing .My new motto
HHB: Hello Honey bunny If I wanna text my man
MbR$: Embarassed Should be a standby in my phone.
ROTFLAPIMP: Rolling on the floor laughing and peeing in my pants cuz LOL is not enough!
WOT: What's up No idea how they got that out of a word with O in it?
BR: Bathroom nice to know!
BS: WATCH IT...it can mean, Big smile!
There's just a few. And I'm so inspired now I'm thinking about coming up with some of my own!
Oh alright, show me your coolness...what one's do you know?
AAYF: As always, your friend
MGTG: Mama got the groove

You gotta be kiddin me
I know irl and kwim ~ the others you had listed ~ never heard of 'em!
I finally had to ask what this mean
dd (dear daughter)
hd (dear husband)
ds (dear son)
oh & the <3 drove me crazy 'cause all the young girls at church would put it in emails or on their blog and I had NO clue what it meant. I had to ask about that one too ~ yes, they all laughed at me! Oh, it's fun workin' with young people!
oh, so what ttyl mean?
My head hurts! Can't we just go back to spelling things wrong? Seriuously, texting hurts my brain.
THMB. Is that one already taken?
How funny, I don't know any of these!
of course I was able to figure out the peeing my pants one in a split second... I am not cool- texting language drives me a little nuts. My daughter tries to use it in emails to her dad- he replies that he doesn't understand. Now I yell "and use REAL English!" up the stairs when she is sending him a note. Thanks for making me smile! Hope you are feeling better.
Here's to being even more clueless than you are. Some day Adeline can teach me all about it...
You know it's gone too far when your 10-year-old starts writing "u" - but catches herself - for the word "you." Her teacher - me - would use some serious red ink for that!!!
I might know the lingo but getting it onto the screen to send to one of my boys is another story. I text one-fingered and it takes FOREVAH!!
ttyl = talk to ya later :) But what is <3????? No idea. And I can't even think of some cool letters for my own name!!
Some of this is on facebook - and I just shake my head. When typing the actual word takes shorter than typing the symbols.
<3 = heart
I think.
But I really have a hard time not saying less than...or greater than... or huh?
idk = i don't know.
I'm sure I know more but at the moment I'm suffering from a great case of "CRAT"
Oh my word! ROTFLAPIMP?? For real?
I guess I am out of it too because I didn't know what some of these meant. And you cracked me up with you comment about your son getting a phone when he's 35! Ha!
Girl I'm totally out of the loop then!!!! Hope you are feeling better! Hugs to you...
Just saw your comment on my blog - I sure hope you are feeling better, girlfriend!
I'm with sarah, I had a headache by the time I got through your first comment.
I only know LOL and BTW (by the way) and MYOB (mind your own business, which unfortunately I say to my kids a lot and they are picking up on).
I see all these women talking and texting at 7:00am while they're dropping of kids and I wonder, Who the heck do they need to talk to so badly at this time of day?? Why can't they put that thing away for half an hour and give their kids their undivided attention?
I think I have finally reached the age where I am becoming a curmudgeon about certain things they didn't have when I was a youngster!
BTW, luv ur blog.
I'm totally out of the groove. I did not know any of these! Thanks!
