My Sister
She knows the things I dream of,
the places that I've been,
she accepts the person I've become,
she's a very special friend.
She's always been there for me
no matter where I roam,
and whenever we're together,
it's just like being home.
"A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost." ~Marion C. Garretty

I am one of four sisters, and your poem hits home for me. Through out my life I have had them as built in friends and mentors. I can not imagine my life without sisters.
I have been preoccupied so I didn't realize you were doing a give away today. But, I will share a thought about my favorite birthday tradition. When I was a little girl, we did not have 2 dimes to rub together. So, I do not recall having birthday parties or even big birthday presents. But, I do remember that for my birthday we would go to the beach, at the local state park pond. We would have a picnic with my grandparents and get to swim. That tradition moved into my adult life, with a few twists. I live 200 miles from my sisters. Instead of the trip to the pond, they have driven to my home for a trip to the ocean. We eat ice-cream, and ride the carousel. This is the highlight of my summer, and the fact that it is shared by my sisters makes it the best part of the year.
I wish your sister a happy birthday, and many more to come!
Happy Day to you Linda! Hope you have a great day.
Let’s see - my favorite birthday would have to be my 21st, now it's not what you all are thinking, I'm not that kind of girl.
Hubby and I were engaged and also worked together at the time, but unfortunately the day I turn 21 he was not able to be with me. BUT on that day, the receptionist called back and said there was a delivery for me up front.
To my surprise - it was a bouquet of RED ROSES!! 21of them - one to represent each birthday! And yes, they were from my charming man :-)
What a beautiful post for your sister's birthday! I have 1 sister; she's my best friend. She knows me better than I know myself sometimes. :o)
My favorite birthday gift was on my 13th birthday. My dad lived in another state and my mom had to go out of state so it was just me and my sister and we went out for pizza. My dad UPS'd a box to me with a mylar ballon in it so that when I opened it, it sprang right up.
It was my less is more birthday, but my most memorable one by far. Oooh, and my favorite birthday treat is cupcakes baked in ice cream cones!
Blessings, Whitney
Happy Birthday to Mary! I have two sisters and really appreciated the poem. The pictures were fun too. I like birthday cake!
Oh I wish I had a sister like you! You are so sweet! Love the post to honor Mary today!
Ok so my favorite birthday was my 6th birthday it fell on Easter. I got to pick a really pretty dress and the Easter bunny gave only me extra treats. I also had a bunny cake and my whole family celebrated my birthday. (That never happens) But because it was a holiday...My all time favorite treat though is angel food cake with fresh strawberries and REAL whipped cream. MMMMMM.
I had one surprise party when I turned 30. Was NOT my favorite birthday. I would have to say that since the kids came and do little special things like draw me pictures or cuddle with me...those have been my favorites. Because they seem to get that we each have a special day and they try hard to make it special too. So sweet.
Happy Birthday Mary!
I already left you my favorite birthday memory. You can't beat a chocolate cake for birthday cake either.
Today is Mini-me's birthday. She's 10. :-) I want to play.
My favorite b-day gift was..um...let's see. I don't remember many. How sad.
So recently - for My birthday last year the Professor got me an MP3 Player for my birthday. I love it. It works on Windows Media - and I don't have to mess with Itunes. ;-)
My favorite treat is cake.
My favorite tradition is hanging with family.
Happy birthday to you tomorrow.
Happy Birthday Linda's Sis!
Regarding treats - not much of a cake fan - love cookies, cookie dough, pies, cobblers, cherry or raspberry cheesecake.....
My favorite birthday present I actually discovered the day before my birthday in 1998 - that would be the pregnancy test that read positive - indicating Brayden would be arriving in April of 1999!
My favorite birthday would have to be 1995, my 23rd, which was the day before I got married. All the peole most dear to me were there and sang "Happy Birthday" at the rehearsal dinner and the next day I got to marry my best friend!!!
As for treats, I am not a cake person so I usually have Strawberry Shortcake or, since becoming a mom, a chocolate chip cookie cake!
As for sisters, this makes me miss mine terribly! I live 2,000 miles away from them and do not get to see them much but they are my best friends!
Happy Birthday all!
Happy Birthday sweet friend!
Oh, goodness! Let's see.
My favorite birthday treat..... cake! Love it! When we we small my mom would always make our birthday cakes using those formed pans and each year we got to pick out which one we wanted. My favorite was the Holly Hobby one I picked out, I think it was my 9th or 10th birthday.
Happy Birthday to your sis! What a sweet thing for you to do for her! I can't remember if I answered the birthday question or not? I thought I entered, but now I'm not sure. My favorite cake is yellow with chocolate icing, but these days I usually just order a dessert since my Mom is not around to bake me a cake ;-) And my dessert of choice would be Tiramisu.
Happy Birthday, Mary!
I left a comment on your other post, but I just wanted to say that. :) Oh...and we usually do cake around here. I don't care so much for myself about cake, but it's fun now that I have a little girl.
Happy Birthday! My favorite birthday treat is chocolate chip cake with chocolate chip frosting and chocolate chip ice cream. :-)
Hope it is a fantastic day for you!!

What a beautiful post for your sister. You are blessed to have each other! Happy Birthday Mary!
My favorite birthday treat while growing up was yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Now it is ANYTHING that my hubby or kids makes me. I am pretty easy.
Oh, the big giveaway- I love your enthusiasm for it. It is often more fun to give than receive, isn't it- unless it is chocolate, then it is hands off!!!
My fave bd gift? Hmmm- i can't think of anything amazing right now. What melts my heart is the nice words my hubby writes in my cards and the sweaty, scrunched up wild bouquet of dandelions in my children's fists on my special day. Often these giveaways don't apply to Canada, so don't worry about it- I just wanted to comment anyways!
Happy Birthday to Linda's Sis!!
I'll just come back tomorrow and wish you a Happy Day Linda...heehee
We have a long standing tradition in our family that my Mom cooks the birtday person their favorite meal. The thing I love most right now is that my nephew was born only two days after my birthday. So I have a special little dude to share the time with! My favorite Birthday treat is brownies and home made icecream!!
I'll see ya tomorrow for you Big Celebration! HUGS!!
Since I answered the other question on your last post, I guess I'll answer "do you eat cake, pie, what?"
YES!!! Lots please, and add some ice cream. Thank you!
Do I get two entries for leaving comments on BOTH posts? I had to try. ;o) Happy almost Birthday!!!
Hope I get two entries too! :)
My favorite thing to eat for my birthday is chocolate chip cookies. I don't really like cake, I only like apple pie, so that really only leaves cookies. The deal is that no one can comment on how many cookies I put in my mouth on my birthday. Oh, I also like a chocolate milkshake - a fancy one from an ice cream shop, not like a Wendy's Frosty. I'm pretty easy to please on my bday.
Dang! I missed the deadline.
Anyway my favorite treat is cheesecake, and you didn't even ask but my favorite dream bday gift would be a late 60's Mustang, and best of all...
Happy Birthday!
My mom would make me mud pie on my birthday. Mint chocolate chip ice cream with oreo crums and whipped cream all layered and covered with chocolate sauce. The only time I tried to make an ice cream cake the electricity went out for 6 hours and the ice cream all melted in the freezer. I think there is still some in there after 4 years
Happy b-day to your sistah! I want a sister for my birthday. I've always wanted a sister. Where can I get me one??? hahahaha
