Random thoughts: the last day of summer

Oh can it be. The last day. Today we have our Open House at school. My boys are both excited about the teachers they have this year. My oldest takes things to heart pretty seriously. So when he saw a classmate he struggled with last year on the list for his class, his whole demeanor changed. Oh how I wish I could always spare my children from struggles. Then I remind myself of all the times I have struggled and will struggle and how it has truly made me a better person! Yea, well that's the right approach but I still desperately want to march right into that school and set up my own boundaries! Hmph, what mama doesn't?!

My kids have said some funny things lately! Last night I heard D-Man sayin' "Bikini Bottom Baptist Church". Now who knows what in the world the conversation was stemed from, but I think I've let them veg on Sponge Bob Square Pants too much this summer!

I am thrilled to feel and see Fall in the air. It is always a time of mourning however as summer is left behind. Days of darkness by 5pm and rain in a constant stream makes my heart just shrivel! [Chin up Linda!]

I just finished reading "Messy Spirituality" by Mike Yaconelli, as a recommendation from my buddy Lynn. THANK YOU sweet friend! It captured my attention and my heart. This author/pastor is as real as it gets. I felt so much freedom as I read this book.

Here are a couple morsels of what I took away with me:
"...spiritual growth is more than a procedure; it's a wild search for God in the tangled jungle of our souls, a search which involves a volatile mix of messy reality, wild freedom, frustrating stuckness, increasing slowness, and a healthy dose of gratitude."

"Getting stuck (spiritually) can be the best thing that could happen to us, because it forces us to stop.....we have no choice...we end up searching for Jesus...when we're stuck, we're much more likely to pay attention to our hunger for God and the longings and yearnings we have stifled."

And so that about does it for my random thoughts of the day. From reading so many of your blogs I can sense a change in the wind for many of us. Especially in our relationship with God. So about the topic of "seasons"... I suppose they aren't all bad and sincerely do move us forward each time to growing up and becoming who HE wants us to be!

I say we're all growin with it!

I've been in search of a new book.
I love those quotes. I think I'll have to look for this one. Have a great day! The hurricane has given me almost a week off...I was getting a little stir crazy yesterday...so need to find something productive to do =)

Is this the same guy who wrote "Under the Bridge" (or something like that) about his experiment living as a homeless person? I read that book and really learned from it.

I sure have been feeling stuck lately in almost every area of life, and I'm hoping that means I'm in the valley and the only way to go now is UP!

I totally get ya on the school thing (see my post today on You Have My Word blog). I guess it's a pretty common Mom feeling, and that's a comfort to me.

Hey! Glad you enjoyed the book. I still say you MUST read "Too Small to Ignore."

Loved all of your random thoughts....

Fall is my favorite season. I miss the long days, but there is just something comforting about the warm colors and coolness of fall. So sorry D-Man is sitting next to the boy with issues. God's plan is perfect, and He will use this to change one or both of their lives. Keep us posted...
