So I'm laying by the pool the other day and I lean over to my SIL and ask her what she thinks this brown stuff is on my cheeks. I colored my hair a few days ago and when I noticed it, I thought it was just me being a dork and staining my jawline somehow when I rinsed my hair. {No I will not blame you for laughing at this moment if you are} My SIL is a nurse, so I figured she would give me the skinny. Was it skin cancer or am I just freaking out for nuthin'?
It's called 'pregnancy mask".
Seriously. I AM NOT PREGNANT!
So what is up with that?
"Mask of pregnancy: Muddy-brown pigmentation on the cheeks or elsewhere on the face that develops in about half of all women during pregnancy. Some women also develop it outside pregnancy, as do some women on hormone therapy. The pigmentation is worsened by ultraviolet (UV) light, which tends to darken it."
Also known as Melasma.
As much as I've been pointing my finger back at myself and shaking my head for all those foolish *YOUNGER* vanity years spent in tanning beds, I've hoped it wouldn't come back and kick me in the behind. Well justice has been served in this case, all thanks to a little pill called Yaz.

Grr.
Here I take *the pill* thinkin' how cool it is that it helps with acne and what do I get....A stinkin' mask thank.you.very.much! Not only that, for people who do know about "the pregnancy mask" and wondered if that tire around my waist was perhaps a baby....pff...no trying to convince them I'm not now!!
The 55SPF isn't enough, so I've joined the smart people who wear the big hat at the pool.
Please save the lecture. I know, I know....Foolish, foolish girl.
Well, let's just hope my teeth last longer than my skin has!

My mom gets this when out in the sun as well. She found a great foundation that keeps most of the sun out. I will ask her what it is.... it has helped her a ton!
Girl, I can relate! I have it, too but fortunately it is all on my forehead and covered by hair...so far. Ain't getting old grand!
I have never heard of that...but I bet you look cute in your hat!!
'Loving that picture!
Melanie@Bella~Mella
Oh my gosh, that pic is so funny!
Hope you get the "discoloration" worked out soon! :)
WAS there a lecture to go along with this? Hmmm. Only thing I can think of is why in the world do we get saddle with *stuff* you know menopause and periods adn *stuff* First we have to worry about not getting pregnant, then getting pregnant, then having a healthy baby, stretch marks, sore boobies, then we have to worry about the "oops" factor, things saggin', insominia, hot flashes....THAT my friend, that is something we all need to lecture about. Men need to be aware. AWARE I say of our troubles and wohss, we need to stand together...whose with me?
Anyone? anyone? Bueller?
Crap. Well at least you've joined the big hat club! :)
My cousin has that too. I'm sure it's frustrating. Oh, and I totally agree with Sara...I bet your are darling sittin by the pool in your cute little hat!
I always wanted to tan because I'm pale as a sheet, but I'm terrified of skin cancer and even of tanning beds (claustrophobic), so...the only time I've been tan is when I've gotten a spray-on, lol!!! I'm sure I'll be thankful later on, but now, I would like to have a "I'm alive" glow...
First of all, HUGE props for this song. Luh-OVE Testify!
And I'm with ya on the big hat. Skin cancer runs in my family, so I should be smarter than going out without one, but this summer I forgot a few days, burned, and then kicked myself for it.
Give yourself a break though, I'm sure there's more sun in Texas. There's more Everything in Texas, right?
Blessings,
Carolynn
We definitely get the raw end of the deal when it comes to hormones. They cause problems in every stage of life. You're still lookin' lovely. ;o)
I have melasma too, isn't it lovely? :o(
Doesn't it get enhanced by the sun? Maybe it'll get better after summer sun? Just sayin' :)
